One of my favorite lighting pieces at the Maison & Objet trade fair in Paris came from Flam & Luce. Designed by Cyril Gorin from 2 x 5 Studio, the Wind table lamp cast a lovely glow. But it also has other features that set it apart from the rest.
To begin with, Wind's wooden base is covered in the same sort of high-gloss lacquer finish that is giving cabinets and other furniture pieces trend-forward status today and for for at least 18 - 24 months more. Next, it features color accents in red-cast blue, which was the most-exciting direction for the blue family in Paris. Finally, Wind includes a hidden compartment that holds two wooden boxes with sliding tops—perfect for hiding jewelry or other small-yet-precious items where nobody expects them.
